A fitting tribute to fallen soldiers

Just thought I would share this beautiful place on my website. It is one of the most thought provoking places I have ever visited. Sitting in the most picturesque countryside as it’s backdrop is the most sentimental monument standing proud, it is of course the Armed Forces monument.

Walking around admiring the beautiful carvings and looking at the names of the fallen I could feel the tears sting my eyes as I saw the names of several soldiers whom I have known in recent years.

The timing wasn’t great for my visit with my husband about to deploy to Afghanistan and there was one particularly sobering moment as I stared at the beautiful white blank walls and found myself thinking ‘they are waiting to be written on’ waiting to be inscribed with the names of those yet to be fallen.

As we continued to take in the rest of the Arboretum it was like a tour through the ages, I learned about a part of history I hadn’t known and there were amazing facts and accounts of bravery which were incredibly moving.

It may sound like quite a morbid place to visit but nothing could be further from the truth.
